FIRE EXTINGUISHERS

Fire prevention is something that we should all be aware of and take steps such as having an appropriate fire extinguisher and fire blanket in our kitchens - just in case!

Whilst it is not a requirement of either our insurance company or the fire service for extinguishers to be provided in our common areas (i.e. the stair cases in each block) TQM have historically provided extinguishers for additional security and the comfort of residents.

Having reached their sell by date, the old extinguishers were all replaced on the 22nd February by much bigger and more versatile 6 litre foam extinguishers.

These are suitable for most fire situations that we are liable to experience in the stairwell areas involving wood, cloth, carpets, furniture, paper, plastics etc- Fires involving solids, but should not be used on electrical fires such as a Fuse Board.

It is important to note that these extinguishers are not intended for use in your flat and most certainly not on an oil fire such as a chip pan.

They are intended to help you to make an escape down the stair case, for example if the area in front of you was on fire as you made your way to the exit.

These extinguishers have some weight to them and require a little skill to use effectively so as in all fire situations - IF IN DOUBT - GET OUT!

FIRE ALARM TEST

The annual fire alarm tests will take place on Monday 10th April from 9.30 for a couple of hours. All 8 staircases will be involved during which you will hear intermittent alarms being sounded for a while.

There is no need to vacate the building unless you are told to do so.
